The reaction plates were reduced from four to three. The tapered snap ring and flat snap ring, on either side of the UD/OD clutch was increased in size by 0.015 inch. As a result of this, a sleeved reaction shaft support is added and a revised input clutch retainer.

Additionally, the parking sprag was upgraded. The most obvious difference to the new parking sprag is the absence of a second guide hole.

Another change that occurred was that the cover assembly was modified to be a "sandwiched" cover, meaning that the cover consists of a layer of metal, then a layer of plastic, and then metal. This change helped to reduce transfer gear noise.
