Power Steering Switch Elimination And/Or MIL Illumination With Hex Code $73

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.2L ENGINE.
DISCUSSION:
An early running change was made to eliminate the power steering switch input to the PCM. This change was made due to a premature power steering switch electrical fault. The switch at the power steering pump was changed to a dummy switch (plug) and a PCM (flash) change was made to prevent DTC $73 - POWER STEERING SWITCH FAILURE.
Although a rework effort took place to implement this change in all vehicles prior to dealer shipment, a few vehicles may have been released without having the total rework completed.
If a vehicle is brought in with MIL illumination and DTC Hex $73 - POWER STEERING SWITCH FAILURE the power steering pump must be inspected for dummy switch installation and the PCM must be checked for the latest software version based on the TIL release listed on this Technical Service Bulletin.
NOTE:
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE DUMMY SWITCH BE REPLACED WITH AN OPERABLE SWITCH.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using the Mopar Diagnostic System (MDS) or the Diagnostic Scan Tool (DRB III) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures Manual, verify all engine/transmission systems are functioning as designed. If Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If DTC Hex $73 is present, perform the Repair Procedure.
NOTE:
WHENEVER A POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) IS REPLACED DUE TO FAILURE, THE SOFTWARE OF THE REPLACEMENT CONTROLLER SHOULD BE VERIFIED FOR THE LATEST REVISION LEVEL. USE THE FLASH PROCEDURE TO UPDATE REPLACED CONTROLLERS AS NECESSARY.

THE MDS AND DRB III ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM THIS REPAIR AND THE SYSTEM MUST BE OPERATING WITH RELEASE 21 OR HIGHER AND TIL CD RELEASE 1150 OR HIGHER MUST BE INSTALLED.
