Instrument Panel - Clicking Sound

SUBJECT:
Clicking Sound on Right Side Top of Instrument Panel

MODELS:
1998 (LH) Intrepid

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Clicking sound on right side, top of instrument panel, near lower windshield area.

DIAGNOSIS:

Test drive the vehicle on a rough road, if a clicking noise is present, perform the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 06033688 Rivet, 1/4" Diameter

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves installing a rivet in the right front shock tower.

1. Remove air cleaner housing.

2. Remove the battery ground cables from the shock tower.





3. Center punch and drill one 1/4" hole in the right front shock tower (Figure 1). The hole should pass through the front shock tower reinforcement and the front wheelhouse panel.

NOTE:
AN ALUMINUM A/C LINE IS ROUTED NEAR THE 1/4" HOLE LOCATION. THE ALUMINUM A/C LINE MUST BE PROTECTED DURING DRILLING AND RIVETING TO PREVENT DAMAGE.

4. Coat the rivet with Mopar RTV Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant, p/n 04318025, and install from the engine compartment side.

5. Install battery ground cable and air cleaner housing.

6. Verify repair.
