Antitheft and Alarm Systems: Description and Operation

INTRODUCTION
The Viper utilizes a new Electronic Entry Module (EEM), This system replaces the Vehicle Theft Alarm Module. The Security function allows the vehicle to be armed actively (with the radio frequency transmitter) or passively (using the lock/unlock switch with keys out of the Ignition and the driver's door open). The vehicle is disarmed by pressing the unlock button on the radio frequency transmitter. An armed vehicle will alarm if either door, the hood or the trunk are opened. The vehicle cannot be started unless it is disarmed. Any attempt to do so will cause the vehicle to alarm.

SYSTEM OPERATION
The system can be actively armed by pressing the lock button on the key fob. The system responds with a single horn chirp, if the message is from a valid (programmed) key fob. The system will passively arm if the ignition is turned off and the key is removed, the hood and lift glass are closed and a door is open, pressing the lock button on the door and closing the door will start the arming process. There is a 15 second arming period. If the ignition is off, all doors, hood and lift glass are closed for 15 seconds, the system will automatically arm. The security LED will turn on during the arming process and the horn will chirp on completion of the arming process. The security LED will then flash at a 10 % duty cycle. The system can only be disarmed with a programmed key fob. When the alarm is tripped, the park lamps and the horn will flash indicating that the vehicle has been tampered with. The alarm can be tripped by opening doors, hood, liftgate or turning the ignition on. Once tripped, the alarm will sound for 2.5 minutes.The park and tail lamps will flash for approximately 18 minutes. The PCM will not allow the engine to start. If the EEM has been tripped and 18 minutes have passed, the horn will chirp 3 times upon unlocking with the key fob to alert the driver that a theft condition may have taken place. Normal disarming with the key fob will result in two short horn chirps.

Arming
The Security System can be armed by two different methods
1. The passive arming method occurs when the vehicle is locked using a door lock/unlock switch while the ignition is off, the hood and trunk are closed and a door is opened. The closing of the vehicle door(s) will start the 15 seconds arming period. With the ignition switch OFF and all doors, hood and trunk are closed for 15 seconds, the system will automatically arm. The Alarm Set indicator LED will be lit during the 15 second arming period. When the system is armed, the horn will chirp and the LED will flash at a 10 % duty cycle.
2. The active method of arming takes place upon receiving a lock signal from the electronic entry module with ignition switch in the OFF and all doors, hood, and trunk closed.

Disarming
The system can be disarmed by unlocking the vehicle with the transmitter and is acknowledged by a double horn chirp.

Triggering The Alarm
When the system is armed, opening a door, hood, or the trunk will trigger the system. Turning the ignition key to the RUN position will also trigger the alarm. Upon trigger the alarm will sound for approximately 2.5 minutes. The park lamps, tail lamps, and instrument panel warning lamp will flash for approximately 18 minutes. The engine control module will not allow the engine to start.

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) is used to protect the vehicle from theft by monitoring the vehicle doors, ignition switch, hood, and lift glass to determine if the horns and lamps should be cycled along with the ignition system disabled.

Power for the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module, which is used as the control for the system, is supplied by four (4) sources. The RKE module is also used for door unlatching

Circuit V6 supplies power to the module when the ignition switch is in the ACCESSORY and RUN position. This circuit is protected by a 15 amp fuse located in cavity 3 of the fuse block.

Circuit G5 supplies power to the RKE module when the ignition switch is in the RUN/START position. This circuit is protected by a 5 amp fuse located in cavity 11 of the fuse block.

Circuits F33 and F35 supply a constant battery feed to the RKE module. The F33 circuit is protected by a 15 amp fuse located in cavity 5 of the Power Distribution Center (PDC). The F35 circuit is protected by a 10 amp fuse located in cavity 20 of the fuse block.

Ground for the module is supplied on circuit Z20. This circuit connects to the module in three (3) separate cavities.

For communication with the other modules and controllers the RKE module is interfaced with the CCD Bus. The circuits involved are D1 for CCD (+), and D2 for CCD (-).
