Installation
1. Install the upper control arm back into the frame rail mounting brackets. Install the upper control arm pivot bolts as shown. DO NOT TIGHTEN THE PIVOT BOLTS AT THIS TIME
2. Install the upper ball joint stud into the steering knuckle. Install the upper ball joint stud, to steering knuckle attaching nut. Tighten the ball joint stud castle nut to a torque of 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Install the castle nut retaining cotter pin.
3. Install the driveshaft yoke into the rear hub/ bearing
4. Install the washer and nut mounting the yoke to the rear hub/bearing. TIGHTEN BUT DO NOT TORQUE MOUNTING NUT AT THIS TIME.
CAUTION: The bolts attaching the drive shaft universal joint clamps to the differential and yoke are not reusable. They must be replaced with new bolts. If new bolts can not be obtained, the removed bolts can be cleaned and have new Loctite applied and used as a substitute for new bolts.
5. Install the driveshaft back in the vehicle. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
6. Install the shock absorber. Do not tighten the shock absorber upper or lower mounting bolt at this time.
7. Install the wheel and tire. Tighten the wheel mounting stud nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Then repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower the vehicle to the ground so the full weight of the vehicle is supported by the tires.
9. Apply the parking brake to keep vehicle from moving when torquing the hub/bearing to yoke mounting nut.
10. Tighten the yoke to rear hub/bearing mounting nut to a torque of 257 Nm (190 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the spring washer, retainer and cotter pin for the rear hub nut on the yoke.
12. Position the vehicle on an alignment rack. If an alignment rack is not available the vehicle MUST be positioned on a known level surface.
13. Install the front and rear Vehicle Height Checking Fixtures, Special Tools 6914, or equivalent on the front and rear wheel flanges.
14. Ballast the vehicle to the correct design height. Refer to Alignment.
15. When the vehicle is set to the correct design height, tighten both rear upper control arm mounting to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Then tighten the shock absorber top and bottom mounting bolt to a torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
16. Remove the ballast (weight) from the vehicle. Correctly jounce the vehicle letting it return to its curb height.
17. Correctly measure the vehicles curb height. Refer to Alignment.
