Installation

NOTE: When installing the upper control arm be sure the sport shims are in place between the pivot bar and the frame rail. One sport shim is to be installed on each pivot bar mounting stud.

CAUTION: When installing the upper control arm, the serrated area around the mounting stud holes in the pivot bar must be facing the frame.





1. Install the control arm pivot bar on the frame rail mounting studs. Install the pivot bar mounting stud nuts. Torque the upper control arm pivot bar mounting nuts to 210 Nm (155 ft. lbs.).





2. Install the upper ball joint stud into the steering knuckle. Install the upper ball joint stud, to steering knuckle attaching nut. Torque ball joint stud to steering knuckle nut to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Install upper ball joint attaching nut cotter pin. Align the cotter pin hole in the attaching nut and ball joint stud only by tightening the attaching nut, do not loosen it.
3. Install rotor on front hub and bearing assembly.





4. Install disc brake caliper on steering knuckle. Align caliper mounting holes with threaded holes in steering knuckle. Install the 2 bolts attaching the caliper to the steering knuckle. Tighten both mounting bolts to a torque of 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).





5. Align brake hose bracket with hole in steering knuckle. Install the hub/bearing assembly attaching bolt. Tighten the hub/bearing attaching bolt to a torque of 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).





6. Install shock absorber/coil spring assembly on vehicle through center of upper control arm.





7. Install the shock absorber bushing into the mounting bracket on lower control arm. Install the shock absorber to bracket bolt. DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLT AT THIS TIME
8. Using a pry bar carefully push down on the upper control arm far enough to install the top of the shock absorber in the frame bracket.





9. Install the shock absorber to frame bracket bolt. DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLT AT THIS TIME
10. Install the wheel and tire.
11. Tighten the wheel mounting stud nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Then repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
12. Lower the vehicle to ground from jack stands or hoist.
13. Position vehicle on an alignment rack.
14. Install the front and rear Vehicle Height Checking Fixtures, Special Tools 6914 on the front and rear wheel flanges. Refer to Alignment.
15. Ballast the vehicle to the correct design height. Refer to Alignment.
16. Torque the shock absorber upper and lower mounting bolts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
