Removal

CAUTION: When servicing the accelerator pedal, do not damage or kink the core wire inside the cable sheathing.

NOTE:
- The brake, clutch and accelerator pedals used in this vehicle are adjustable. All three pedals can be adjusted back and forth to accommodate for the differences in drivers leg lengths, when the drivers seat is adjusted to its correct driving position. All three pedals of the adjustable pedal system are synchronized to adjust at the same amount using a common actuator mounted below the steering column.
- The components of the adjustable pedal system are not replaceable, if any pedal or component of the adjustable pedal system requires service the entire pedal system must be replaced. This requires that the entire pedal system (all three pedals) be removed from the vehicle when the replacement of any one pedal is required.
- The only replaceable components of the adjustable pedal system are the pedal pads, linkage retaining clips and the stop lamp switch.
- The adjustable pedal system must not be disassembled. If disassembled the pedals will no longer be correctly synchronized, which will require the replacement of the entire adjustable pedal system.

1. Remove the ground cable (-) from negative terminal on the battery. Be sure to isolate the ground cable from the negative terminal on the battery.

2. Remove fuse box cover from knee blocker trim panel.
3. Remove the knob from the actuator for the adjustable pedal assembly.
4. Remove the knee blocker trim panel from the lower instrument panel.

5. Remove the nut and washer, attaching the adjustable pedal actuator to the knee blocker panel. Remove the adjustable pedal actuator from the knee blocker panel.
6. Remove the screws attaching the fuse box to the knee blocker panel.

7. Remove the knee blocker panel from the lower instrument panel.

NOTE: When servicing the accelerator pedal, do not damage or kink the core wire inside the cable sheathing.

11. Remove the retaining clip from the brake pedal pin using following procedure. Position a small screwdriver between the center tang on the retaining clip and the brake pedal pin. Rotate blade of screwdriver enough so center tang on retaining clip can pass over end of brake pedal pin. Then pull retaining clip off brake pedal pin.
12. Remove the wiring harness connector for the clutch position switch from the vehicle wiring harness connector.
13. Remove the actuation rod for the hydraulic clutch master cylinder from the pin on the clutch linkage. Actuation rod is removed from the pin on the clutch kinkage using the following procedure. Position a small screwdriver between the center tang on the retaining clip and the pin on the clutch linkage. Rotate the blade of the screwdriver enough so that the center tang on the retaining clip can pass over end of pin. Then push the retaining clip sideways and pull it off of the pin.
14. Remove the actuation rod for the hydraulic clutch master cylinder from the pin.
15. Remove the clutch master cylinder from dash panel. The clutch master cylinder is removed from the engine side of the dash panel by rotating it counter-clockwise until it disengages from the pedal assembly bracket on the inside of the vehicle. Move the clutch master out from the dash panel until it hits the left inner fender. This is required to avoid hitting and damaging the master cylinder when removing the pedal assembly.
16. Unclip the stop lamp switch wiring harness from the bracket of the pedal assembly.

17. Remove the stop lamp switch from the brake pedal bracket. Stop lamp switch is removed using the following procedure. Depress and hold the brake pedal while rotating stop lamp switch in a counter-clockwise direction approximately 30 degrees.

18. From the engine compartment side of the dash panel, remove the 2 nuts mounting the accelerator pedal to the dash panel.

19. Remove the shield covering the powertrain control module.

20. Remove the 3 screws mounting the powertrain control module to the dash panel.

21. Remove powertrain control module from dash panel with wiring harness attached, and lay on lower dash panel.
22. Remove bolt mounting adjustable pedal assembly bracket to side of dash panel.
