Drain and Fill Procedure
GENERAL INFORMATIONThe T-56 transmission uses a special type of lubricant called Dexron II-E or Dexron III. This new fluid can withstand higher temperatures than standard Dexron II, Mercon or Mopar 7176 fluid. The use of standard Dexron II, Mercon or Mopar 7176 automatic transmission fluid is not recommended. The transmission should be at operating temperature before draining fluid.
DRAIN AND FILL
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove underbody splash shield.
3. Remove drain plug located on the right side of the transmission tail housing.
4. Remove transmission fill plug located on the left side of the transmission case.
5. Install drain plug into tail housing.
6. Fill transmission with Dexron II-E or Dexron III fluid. The transmission is full when the fluid level is even with the bottom of the fill hole.
7. Install transmission fill plug.
