SUBJECT:
Lack Of Performance At Full Wide Open Throttle

MODELS:
1996 - 1997 (SR) Viper

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 1996-1997 VIPER COUPES/1997 VIPER ROADSTERS.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Lack of performance at wide open throttle.

DIAGNOSIS:

Inspect the throttle cable bracket. If the throttle cable bracket is at the far rearward position, remove the air inlet hose. With the accelerator pedal held to the floor, visually inspect the throttle blade position. If the throttle blades are not straight up (wide open) perform the Repair Procedure. If the throttle cable bracket is not at the far rearward position the throttle cable should be adjusted following the procedure in the 1997 Viper Service Manual (Publication Number 81-270-7150) on page 14-10.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves the replacement of the throttle cable bracket and adjusting the throttle cable.

1. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle body cam lever.

2. Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle cable bracket.





3. Remove the two bolts from the throttle cable bracket and discard the bracket (Figure 1).

4. Install the new throttle cable bracket and tighten the two bolts finger tight.

5. Install the throttle cable into the throttle cable bracket.

6. Attach the throttle cable to the throttle body cam lever.





7. Place a 1.0 mm (.039) feeler gauge on the accelerator pedal stop plate located at the floor mounting of the accelerator pedal (Figure 2).

8. Depress the accelerator pedal to the feeler gauge on the stop plate or full throttle.

9. Loosen the throttle cable bracket and move it fore and aft until full wide open throttle is achieved on the throttle bodies. The throttle blades will be straight up (wide open) with the accelerator pedal compressed to the feeler gauge.

10. Torque the throttle cable bracket bolts to 10.7 Nm (95 in.lbs).
