Wear Marks On Quarter Panel Trim Near B-Pillar
MODELS:
1996 (SR) Viper
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL GTS COUPES BUILT PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 22, 1996 (MDH 11-22-XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The seat belt rubs on the quarter panel trim, near the B-pillar causing wear marks.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the quarter panel trim where the seat belt touches at the B-pillar. If signs of wear/contact are present perform to the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 4886386AA Protective Cover Kit, Quarter Panel Trim
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves installation of both left and right quarter panel protective covers.
1. Remove the visible screws in the door opening that secure the quarter panel trim to the vehicle.
NOTE:
FULL REMOVAL OF THE QUARTER TRIM PANEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED. THE PANEL SHOULD ONLY BE LOOSENED ENOUGH TO GAIN ACCESS FOR THE PROTECTIVE COVER.
2. Adjust the seat rearward to allow access and prevent damage to the seat.
3. Slide the protective cover into the quarter trim panel. See illustration.
4. Lift the lower portion of the quarter panel trim and drill a 7.0 mm (9/32 In.) hole into the trim panel. Use the hole in the protective cover as a template, cover the drill bit to prevent injury to hand while drilling.
5. Install the push pin fastener provided in the protective cover kit.
6. Lift the lower portion of the quarter trim, using the hole in the protective cover as a template, install the screw through the cover into the quarter trim panel.
7. Install the screw located underneath the protective cover. A shim (with OD 3/8" (10 mm)- ID 3/16" (5 mm) and thickness of .20" (1/2 mm) to .40". (1 mm)) may be required between the bottom of the quarter trim panel and top side of the screw flange to eliminate any visible gap along the top edge of the protective cover. See Illustration.
8. Install the quarter panel trim and screws.
9. Repeat procedure for other side.
10. Clean all drill shavings.
