Hood Switch Repair Procedure

1. Open the hood and remove the previous underhood switch from the support bracket.

2. Remove the rubber bumper and threaded post from the support bracket located next to the underhood switch.

3. Install a jam nut (5/16" x 18 pitch) onto the post until it bottoms.

4. Install the rubber bumper with the threaded post into the support bracket until it bottoms in the lowest position.

5. Apply 1A" diameter ball of Butyl Tape (P/N 04076274) onto the inside top of rubber bumper.

6. Carefully close the hood to compress the Butyl.

7. Open the hood and measure the thickness of the Butyl. Adjust the rubber bumper with the post up the distance of the thickness of the Butyl. Remove the Butyl.

8. Close the hood and verify the gap between bumper and bottom of hood bracket has been eliminated by pressing on the corner of the hood.

CAUTION:
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE BUMPER IS NOT ADJUSTED TOO HIGH AS THIS WILL PREVENT THE HOOD FROM CLOSING PROPERLY. STEPS 5 THROUGH 8 SHOULD BE REPEATED UNTIL THE BUMPER IS ADJUSTED AS FAR UPWARD AS POSSIBLE WITH COMPLETE HOOD CLOSING.

9. When the bumper is adjusted properly, tighten the jam nut against the support bracket and install the new underhood switch.

10. Close the hood (do not overslam). This step will automatically adjust the new switch to the proper depth.
