Symptom Self-Test
A diagnostics mode is available in the system to verify operation of all monitored switches or circuits. To enter diagnostics without the Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB), cycle the ignition key from off to the accessory position three times, leaving the key in the accessory position.Upon entering diagnostics, the park and tail lamps will begin flashing to verify their operation. In addition the horn will sound twice.
Returning the ignition to the OFF position will stop the lamps from flashing while keeping the system in diagnostics.
While in the diagnostics mode, a horn chirp should occur at each of the following events:
- Open and close each door
- Open and close the hood
- Turn the courtesy lamps on and off
- Press the lock and unlock button on the RKE transmitter.
NOTE: Allow at least a one-second interval between each opening and closing.
Turn the ignition to the RUN position. A single horn chirp will identify proper operation of the ignition input. This also will take the module out of the diagnostic mode.
The lack of a horn chirp during any operation indicates either:
- a switch failure
- the lack of that input to the vehicle theft security system module
- an internal module failure
If the powertrain control module has been replaced, the system will not operate until 20 engine starts have occurred.
