Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
CAUTION: The fuel system remains pressurized after engine has been shut off. Release system pressure prior to opening system.WARNING: Gasoline is extremely volatile, when servicing fuel systems always wear eye protection, keep open flame away from fuel system components, and prohibit smoking in service areas.
NOTE: Wrap shop towels around fuel hoses to absorb any fuel that spills during fuel tank replacement.
Fuel Tank Access:
REMOVAL
1. Remove fuel tank access panel.
Fuel Filler Neck:
2. Remove fuel filler neck mounting screws.
3. Raise vehicle and remove rear wheels.
4. Remove splash shield from wheel well.
Fuel Filler Neck And Vent Hose:
5. Disconnect vent hose from filler tube.
6. Remove filler tube.
Fuel Tubes:
7. Disconnect fuel supply, return, and vent hoses near fuel filter.
8. Use shop towel to absorb any spilled fuel.
9. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
10. Lower vehicle.
Fuel Tank Removal:
11. Remove fuel tank mounting straps.
12. Remove fuel tank through trunk opening.
INSTALLATION
1. Install fuel tank through trunk opening.
2. Install fuel tank mounting straps.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Connect fuel pump electrical connector.
5. Connect fuel supply, return, and vent hoses near fuel filter.
6. Install filler tube.
7. Connect vent hose from filler tube.
8. Install splash shield in wheel well.
9. Lower vehicle and install rear wheels.
10. Install fuel filler neck mounting screws.
11. Install fuel tank access panel.
12. Using the DRB II select the Automatic Shut Down (ASD) Fuel System Test to pressurize fuel system and check for leaks.
CAUTION: Unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position the fuel pump relay and the ASD relay will remain energized for 7 minutes by the ASD Fuel System Test.
