Backup Lamp Relay: Description and Operation

The BACK-UP lamp relay, which is located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC), is used to turn the lamps ON when the vehicle is placed in REVERSE. Power for the coil side of the relay is provided on circuit T3. This circuit is only HOT when the REVERSE side of the Park/Neutral Position switch is CLOSED. Ground for the coil side is provided on circuit T2 which connects to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

The contact side of the relay is powered by circuit F20. This circuit is protected by a 15 amp fuse located in cavity 4 of the junction block. The F20 circuit also supplies power for the door lock switch illumination, and the speed proportional steering module.
