Deck Lid Latch - Jamming/High Closing Effort
NO: 23-91-94GROUP: Body
DATE: Dec. 2, 1994
SUBJECT:
Deck Lid Latch System Service
MODELS:
1995 (JA) Cirrus/Stratus
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
For any or all of the following symptoms, perform the repair procedure: Key cylinder pop out, key over-rotation and jamming, deck lid closing effort and sound quality, and deck lid pop-up on release.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves adjusting the key cylinder mounting bracket, latch plate, and striker.
1. Remove the deck lid latch cover and the deck opening lower trim panel (4 screws).
2. Loosen, but do not remove, the 4 bolts securing the key cylinder mounting bracket and latch plate.
3. While pulling the key cylinder bracket toward the latch (pressure can be maintained with a screw driver against the deck lid inner panel), torque the right bolt first, then left bolt, to 95 in.lbs. This places the key cylinder low in the closed position, towards the latch and prevents key cylinder pop-out.
4. While pushing the latch mounting plate toward the key cylinder, torque mounting bolts to 95 in.lbs. This pushes the latch up in closed position, towards the key cylinder, and prevents key over-rotation.
5. Remove the deck latch remote release cable from the striker assembly for ease of adjustment. Loosen, but do not remove, the 2 striker mounting bolts.
6. Align striker for vertical flushness of the deck lid to the quarter panels at the rear waterfall area, and centered on the latch opening to prevent the latch from dragging on the striker (provides deck lid gap and flushness, easy deck lid closing, quality closing sound, and allows free latch function without binding to get proper deck lid pop-up when unlocked). Torque striker mounting bolts to 105 in.lbs.
7. Install remote release cable, lower trim panel, and latch cover.
8. Check for smooth operation of the remote release and key.
