Engine - Noisy Lifters/Oil Consumption

SUBJECT:
High Oil Consumption, Noisy Lash Adjusters, Under High RPM Conditions

MODELS:
1995 (PL) Neon

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT WITH THE COMPETITION PACKAGE (SALES CODE ACR) AND EQUIPPED WITH A 2.0L DOHC ENGINE.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Engine operation exceeding 6,000 RPM, along with severe cornering maneuvers, one or all of the following conditions may occur: High oil consumption; oil in intake manifold; low oil level in the pan uncovering the oil pick-up causing noisy lash adjusters.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the engine oil level is low following engine operation at high RPM and severe cornering maneuvers, remove the air intake duct from the throttle body and look for evidence of oil in the duct, on the throttle body and in the intake manifold. If any evidence is found, proceed to the repair procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:
1 4856291 Make-Up Air Restrictor

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves installing a restrictor in the PCV system make-up air nipple.





1. Remove the make-up air hose and clamp from the 900 nipple in the valve cover (See Illustration).

2. Install the make-up air restrictor, P/N 4856291, into the nipple and install the make-up air hose and clamp over the restrictor and nipple.
