Gear Lockout Solenoid: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The skip shift solenoid prevents driver from shifting into second or third gear during certain operating conditions. The skip shift solenoid is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
OPERATION
The PCM locks out second and third gears, when:
^ Engine coolant excedes 98° F (37° C)
^ Vehicle speed is 12 to 18 mph.
^ Engine speed over 608 rpm
^ The PCM verified above conditions
^ Throttle position is less than 23 percent
The PCM resets the solenoid when vehicle speed drops below 2 mph.
