Radiator Cooling Fan Motor Relay: Description and Operation
Relay Location:
LOCATION
The relay is located under heater blower motor housing
PURPOSE
The relay supplies battery voltage to radiator fan.
OPERATION
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) applies or removes the ground from the circuit to energize or de-energize the relay depending upon the cooling demands of the engine.
When the coolant temperature reaches 207° F. (97° C), the PCM applies the ground (energizes) to the radiator fan relay, enabling the radiator cooling fan to operate. When the engine temperature drops below 201° F (94° C), the PCM removes the ground (de-energizes) from the radiator fan relay, disabling the cooling fan.
