Circuit Operation

The SAM system is easy to use and requires no special arming sequence. Operation of the system is as follows:

ARMING THE SYSTEM
The driver can arm the system by completing the following steps in any sequence when exiting the vehicle:

^ Turn the ignition off
^ Remove the key
^ Arm SAM with the SAM Transmitter
^ Open a door
^ Close the door

When all of the above conditions have been met the SAM system will pulse the ground for the security alarm lamp for 15 seconds, causing the lamp to flash on and off. when the lamp stops flashing, the system will be armed. Locking the doors from the outside or manually locking them will prevent the system from arming.

ALARM TRIGGERING
Once armed, the alarm will be triggered by an unauthorized operation of the doors, dome lamp switch or ignition switch. This causes the SAM system to respond in three ways:

1. Flash parking and tail lamps The SAM module will pulse 12 volts from terminal 21 to turn on the lamps.
2. Sound the horn The SAM module will ground the horn relay at terminal 12 to send voltage to the horn.
3. Send a no-start signal over the C2D to the PCM The PCM will disable the fuel system.

The system will stay in the triggered mode for 18 minutes. For the first three minutes, the horn will sound and the tail and park lamps will flash. If the SAM stays in the triggered mode after three minutes, the horn will turn off and the lamps will continue to flash for 15 minutes.

The engine will not start, or it will start then stall until the system is disarmed.

The SAM system cannot be disarmed by disconnecting the battery. If the battery is disconnected, upon re-connection, the SAM will latch in the alarm-triggered condition. This condition can be corrected only by disarming the system.

SAM Disarm:

DISARMING THE SYSTEM
Once the SAM has been triggered the system can be disarmed by the SAM transmitter. The voltage on terminal #15 changes from 12 volts to 0 volts when the transmitter signal is received by SAM.

TAMPER ALERT
The tamper alert feature notifies the driver if an unauthorized entry of the vehicle has been attempted. Just after the system has been disarmed, while the owner is entering the vehicle, SAM will ground the horn relay three times creating three audible horn pulses. This informs the owner that an attempted unauthorized entry has occurred.
