Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes

USING SCAN TOOL
1. With ignition in Off position, connect scan tool then turn ignition On.
2. Select ABS system on scan tool. The ABS warning light illuminates indicating the system is in the scan tool mode. In the scan tool mode the ABS does not operate.
3. Read and record on-board diagnostic trouble codes.
4. Erase diagnostic trouble code memory as outlined under Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If memory cannot be erased, the function is being stopped by a problem that is currently displayed. If memory can be erased, then problem was only temporary or is a problem that can only be detected while driving.

5. If the diagnostic trouble code is not erased or if the ABS function is stopped by a repeated driving test and a diagnostic trouble code is output, inspect system.
6. Diagnostic trouble codes 16 (battery is dead) and 35 (engine is stopped) are output even when the ABS system is normal. These diagnostic trouble codes are output only for a current problem and, if the vehicle's condition returns to normal, then the diagnostic trouble codes will disappear.
7. After inspection, turn ignition switch to Off position and disconnect scan tool.
