Gear Lockout Solenoid: Description and Operation
The 2/3 lockout solenoid prevents driver from shifting into second or third gear during certain operating conditions. The 2/3 lockout solenoid is controlled by the PCM.
The PCM locks out second and third gears, when:
^ Engine coolant excedes 98° F (37° C)
^ Vehicle speed is 12 to 18 mph.
^ Engine speed over 608 rpm
^ The PCM verified above conditions
^ Throttle position is less than 23 percent
The PCM resets the solenoid when vehicle speed drops below 2 mph.
