Test 10 - Crank Angle and Top Dead Center Sensor Testing

CRANK ANGLE AND TOP DEAD CENTER SENSOR TESTING

Fuel Injection:

Fuel Injection:

1. Connect a voltmeter to the red wire in the distributor harness connector and check for voltage with the ignition switch in the ON position. If there is near voltage, continue to next step. If there is no voltage check for a short or open in the wiring between the distributor and Multi-Point Injection (MPI) control relay, repair and retest.
2. Check for continuity to ground on the black wire in the distributor connector. If there is continuity to ground, continue to next step. If there is no continuity to ground, check for an open in the ground circuit, repair and retest.
3. Connect a Tachometer to the negative side of the ignition coil.
4. CRANK engine and check tachometer reading.
5. If there is no rpm reading replace the crank angle/top dead center sensor and retest.
6. If there is a rpm reading and there is still no coil secondary output, replace the ignition coil and retest.
7. If there is a good rpm signal and a good coil secondary coil output spark but the engine will not run, the problem is not ignition related, check computer control section.
