GROUP: Electrical
DATE: Apr. 6, 1992
SUBJECT:
Supplemental Diagnostic Test Procedure - SRS (Supplemental Restraint System)
MODELS:
1991-1992 (B7) Stealth
DISCUSSION:
A discharged battery, or a battery with low voltage may set a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Code. When the ignition key is ON, the diagnostic function of the SRS control unit monitors the system (battery) voltage. If the voltage supplied to the SRS is low for any reason, the control unit will continuously illuminate the SRS warning lamp and diagnosis codes 32, 41, and/or 42 may be set, depending on battery voltage.
Prior to replacing the SRS control unit, the following procedure must be performed.
1. Check the battery voltage and charge if required.
2. Turn the ignition key ON then OFF again at least ten times to erase diagnosis codes 41 and 42 from the systems memory.
3. If the SRS warning light does not go out after performing steps 1 and 2, the system must be repaired using the diagnostic repair procedure outlined in the appropriate service manual.
4. After the system has been repaired, the diagnosis codes must be erased with the DRB II (Scan Tool).
5. Verify that the system is functioning properly by observing the SRS warning lamp. The lamp should turn OFF about seven seconds after the ignition key has been turned ON. If the SRS warning lamp is still ON, repeat steps 3 - 5.
