Oxygen Sensor
The wire and connector which are permanently attached to the oxygen sensors should not be removed, cut, or damaged. Vehicle performance and operation is dependant upon the oxygen sensors.
NOTE:
The oxygen sensors are not interchangeable and should not be removed at the same time when being serviced or replaced. This will ensure that the oxygen sensors do not get switched.
1. Disconnect electrical connector from oxygen sensor.
If the oxygen sensor is to be reused DO NOT CUT THE WIRE.
2. Using a suitable oxygen sensor wrench or socket, carefully remove the sensors from exhaust manifold or pipe. The oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is below 120°F. Use CAUTION, since excessive force may damage threads in exhaust manifold or pipe.
3. If a new sensor is being used, install the new sensor into the manifold or pipe.
4. If an old sensor is being reused, coat threads with anti-seize compound, then install the sensor into the manifold or pipe.
5. Torque the oxygen sensor to specifications, then reconnect the electrical connector. Refer to MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS for sensor torque value.
