Test 2 - Ignition Coil Testing

PRIMARY COIL RESISTANCE TEST

Primary Coil Resistance:

PRIMARY

1. Disconnect the coil four-way connector from the wiring harness.
2. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance of the primary circuits. Measure between terminals 2 and 3 for the cylinder 1 and 4 coil, terminal 1 and 3 for the cylinder 2 and 5 coil and terminal 4 and 3 for the cylinder 3 and 6 coil.

Standard value: 0.67 - 0.81 ohms

Secondary Coil Resistance:

SECONDARY

1. Disconnect the coil four-way connector from the wiring harness and remove the spark plug wires from the coil.
2. Using an ohmmeter check the resistance between each coils high output terminals.

Standard value: 11.3 - 15.3 k-ohms

3. If either primary or secondary resistances are not within specifications replace coil. If ignition coil is ok, check power transistor.
