Knock Sensor: Description and Operation

The detonation sensor is located on the cylinder block and converts vibration into voltage using its piezoelectric element. When detonation occurs, is resonates with the cylinder block vibration to generate high voltage which is sent to the igniter as the detonation signal. Based on this signal, the igniter retards ignition timing to prevent detonation.
