Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
COMPONENTS:
REMOVAL
1. On vehicles with a turbocharger, reduce the internal pressure of the fuel main pipes and hoses by using the following procedure.
(1) Remove the rear seat cushion and remove the carpet.
(2) Start the engine, and then disconnect the electric fuel pump connector.
(3) After the engine has been stopped, set the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
(4) Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the fuel tank cap.
3. Remove the drain plug in order to drain the fuel from the tank.
4. Pry up and remove the plug located on the trunk room floor.
5. Disconnect the fuel gauge unit connectors.
6. Remove the rear left wheel.
7. Disconnect the hoses from the fuel main and return pipes.
8. Disconnect the vapor hose from the 2-way valve.
9. Disconnect the leveling hose and the filler hose at the filler neck.
10. Disconnect the fuel tank mounting bands and then remove the tank.
NOTE: If the inside of the fuel tank is to be cleaned, use any one of the following:
(1) Kerosene
(2) Trichloroethylene
(3) A neutral emulsion type detergent
