Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection
1. Disconnect ignition coil wire from coil.
2. Disconnect cowl wire connector from ignition coil.
3. With ignition off and engine cold, use an ohmmeter to measure resistance of primary coil across positive and negative coil terminals. Resistance should be 1.35-1.65 ohms.
4. Measure resistance of secondary coil between positive terminal of ignition coil and ignition coil wire terminal. Resistance of coil should be 22-30 ohms.
5. Check insulation resistance between positive terminal of coil and coil case. Resistance should read infinity.
6. If specifications are not as specified, replace coil.
