Recall - Wire Harness Repositioning

RECALL SERVICE BULLETIN

Bulletin No.: RSB-001-01

Model(s): 2000 & 2001 Lanos

Date: January 23, 2001

VIN Range: 521856 ~ 646138

Description: Wire Harness Repositioning

Group: Campaigns

Reference: T01-1-01

Prod. Dates: Dec. 15, 1999 ~ Nov. 3, 2000

Daewoo Motor America has determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2000 and 2001 Lanos models. There is a possibility that a wire harness located beneath the carpet in the front passenger floor area may be damaged by passenger foot traffic as the wire harness is rubbed against a body seam in the floor panel. If the wire harness is damaged, it is possible that engine driveability may be affected which could cause sudden engine stalling, and a crash could result.

To eliminate the possibility of this occurring, Daewoo is implementing a recall action where Stores/Independent Dealers are to reposition the wire harness and attach it permanently in a location where the wire harness cannot be damaged.

All affected vehicles in Store/Independent Dealer's possession and subject to this campaign must be held and repaired per the service procedure provided in this campaign bulletin before the vehicles are sold/delivered.

Stores/Independent Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at "No Charge" to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

Current affected Lanos owners will be notified in writing and will be calling to schedule an appointment to have their wire harness repositioned.

In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your Store/Dealership for service in the future, please take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign corrections have been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Wire Harness Repositioning Procedure:

1. Remove the right front door sill and kick panel.

2. Pull the carpet back toward the center of the vehicle to expose the wire harness.

3. Lift the wire harness away from the floor pan and inspect the harness for chaffed wires. If any wires show signs of damage, carefully wrap each individual wire over the damaged area with electrical tape to ensure proper insulation.

4. Using standard vinyl electrical tape, completely wrap the wire harness in the area shown. Ensure that the electrical tape wrap begins at the edge of the bulkhead insulation mat and extends rearward approximately eight (8) inches.

Note:
Some 2001 Lanos models were originally equipped with a protective wrap around the wire harness. It is not necessary to install the additional electrical tape on these vehicles.

5. Insert the tie wrap provided into the hole below the right kick panel area. Position the wire harness and hold firmly in place, as shown in the illustration, then lock down the tie wrap.

6. Replace the carpeting back to its original position. Ensure that the carpeting does not bulge where the harness has been repositioned. If the carpeting does bulge, pull back the carpeting, loosen the tie wrap and reposition the wire harness again ensuring that it is positioned firmly against the side sill, then reposition the carpeting.

7. Reinstall the right front door sill and kick panel.

8. Raise the hood and place a punch mark in the bulkhead approximately 1/4 inch above the 10th digit of the VIN ("Y"-2000 OR "1"-2001) in the engine compartment as shown.

9. Close the hood and insure that it is properly secured.
