Diagnostic System Check

Circuit Description
When the ignition switch is turned ON, the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) is able to send serial data from terminal 9 of the SDM to terminal 13 of the Data Link Connector (DLC).

CAUTION: If a defect 19 located in the Supplemental Inflatable Restraints (SIR) wiring harness, replace, rather than repair, the wiring harness. A wiring repair can create a high-resistance connection which can set a DTC code and keep the airbags from deploying when needed.

CAUTION: Before replacing components, disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait one minute for the SDM capacitor to discharge. The capacitor supplies reserve power to deploy the airbags, even if the battery is disconnected. Unintentional deployment of the airbags can cause injury.
