Headlining Trim Panel Replacement
Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover
Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
1. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the front door opening weatherstrips. Refer to Front Door Opening Weatherstrip Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. If equipped, remove the DVD player. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the overhead console mounting bracket. Refer to Roof Console and Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement (Dome Lamp Replacement).
7. Remove the rear cargo lamps. Refer to Cargo Lamp Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Remove the headliner trim finishing molding. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Molding Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the upper pillar garnish molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Remove the body side rear upper garnish molding. Refer to Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. If equipped with rear HVAC, remove the auxiliary upper air distribution duct. Refer to Auxiliary Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Upper (Auxiliary Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Upper).
12. Remove the rear corner upper garnish molding. Refer to Upper Rear Trim Finish Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Remove the liftgate weatherstrip. Refer to Liftgate Weatherstrip Replacement (Service and Repair).
14. UseJ 38778 in order to remove the rear headliner push-in retainers.
15. Push the headliner forward in order to release the locking tab at the front overhead console.
16. Remove the headliner from the roof through the rear of the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the headliner to the roof through the rear of the vehicle.
2. Align the locking tab at the front overhead console.
3. Push the headliner rearwards in order to lock the headliner into place.
4. Install the rear headliner push-in retainers.
5. Install the liftgate weatherstrip. Refer to Liftgate Weatherstrip Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Install the rear corner upper garnish molding. Refer to Upper Rear Trim Finish Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install the body side rear upper garnish molding. Refer to Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the upper pillar garnish molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. If removed, install the auxiliary upper air distribution duct. Refer to Auxiliary Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Upper (Auxiliary Air Distributor Duct Replacement - Upper).
10. Install the headliner trim finishing molding. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Molding Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Install the rear cargo lamps. Refer to Cargo Lamp Replacement (Service and Repair).
12. Install the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement (Dome Lamp Replacement).
13. Install the overhead console mounting bracket. Refer to Roof Console and Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
14. If removed, install the DVD player. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement (Service and Repair).
15. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Service and Repair).
