Starter Motor: Service and Repair



Starter Motor Replacement (4.3L)

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the starter solenoid nut.
4. Remove the positive battery cable from the starter.
5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) from the starter.




6. Remove the starter bolts and starter.




7. Remove the starter motor bracket shield, if necessary.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the starter motor bracket shield, if necessary.






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

2. Install the starter and bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).




3. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) to the starter.
4. Install the positive battery cable to the starter.
5. Install the starter solenoid nut.

Tighten the nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
