Power Sliding Door (PSD) Inoperative from One Switch

Power Sliding Door (PSD) Inoperative from One Switch

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
* Strategy Based Diagnosis
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions

Circuit/System Description

The power sliding door module (PSDM) monitors the voltage of the left/right sliding door open/close switch signal circuit and the sliding door open/close switch, when the door open/close switch on the overhead console multifunction switch or B pillar is pressed. It provides a ground for the left/right sliding door open/close switch signal circuit. The PSDM detects the voltage drop and interprets this as a request to open or close the appropriate power sliding door. The door disable switch works in a very similar manner, except when the PSDM detects the voltage drop. It interprets this as a request to disable the appropriate sliding door switch located on the B pillar.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, unlock doors, command the appropriate power sliding door to open and close by pressing the appropriate open/close switch on the overhead console multifunction switch. The appropriate power sliding door should open and close as commanded.

If the appropriate power sliding door fails to open and close, refer to Overhead Console Multifunction Switch Malfunction.

2. Press the appropriate door disable switch on the overhead console multifunction switch and command the appropriate power sliding door to open and close by pressing the appropriate door open/close switch on the appropriate B-pillar sliding door open/close switch. The appropriate power sliding door should be disabled.

If the appropriate power sliding door continues to function, refer to Overhead Console Multifunction Switch Malfunction.

3. Press the appropriate door enable switch on the overhead console multifunction, command the appropriate power sliding door to open and close by pressing the appropriate door open/close switch on the appropriate B-pillar sliding door open/close switch. The appropriate power sliding door should open and close as commanded.

If the appropriate power sliding door fails to open and close, refer to B-pillar Switch Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Overhead Console Multifunction Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector C1 at the overhead console multifunction switch.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 3.0 ohms of resistance between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool PSD System Enable Switch parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal F for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate sliding door module.

5. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal F and ground. Verify the scan tool PSD System Enable Switch parameter is Active.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate sliding door module.

6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the overhead console multifunction switch.
7. Verify the scan tool PSD Front Control Switch parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal G for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate sliding door module.

8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal G and ground. Verify the scan tool PSD Front Control Switch parameter is Active.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate sliding door module.

9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the overhead console multifunction switch.

B-pillar Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate Sliding Door Open/Close Switch.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 3.0 ohms of resistance between the ground circuit terminal D and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool PSD Rear Control Switch parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate sliding door module.

4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and ground. Verify the scan tool PSD Rear Control Switch parameter is Active.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the appropriate sliding door module.

5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate sliding door open/close switch.

Component Testing

Overhead Console Multifunction Switch
1. Ignition Off, disconnect the harness connector at the overhead console multifunction switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal G and the ground circuit terminal B.

If not the specified value, replace the overhead console multifunction switch.

3. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal F and the ground circuit terminal B.

If not the specified value, replace the overhead console multifunction switch.

4. Test for less than 3 ohms between the signal circuit terminal G and the ground circuit terminal B with the switch in the active position.

If greater than the specified range, replace the overhead console multifunction switch.

5. Test for less than 3 ohms between the signal circuit terminal F and the ground circuit terminal B with the switch in the disable position.

If greater than the specified range, replace the overhead console multifunction switch.

B-Pillar Switch
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate sliding door open/close switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal A and the ground circuit terminal D with the switch in the inactive position.

If not the specified value, replace the appropriate sliding door open/close switch.

3. Test for less than 3 ohms between the signal terminal A and the ground circuit terminal D with the switch in the active position.

If greater than the specified range, replace the appropriate sliding door open/close switch.
