Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair



INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE REPLACEMENT

CAUTION: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, make sure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward the front of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8.

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Remove the floor console.




3. Remove the 3 fasteners to the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
4. Remove the connection position assurance (CPA) (1) from the SDM.




5. Rotate the locking arm (1) to release the electrical connector from the SDM.
6. Disconnect the electrical connection from the SDM.
7. Remove the SDM from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface.
2. Install the SDM to the vehicle.
3. Connect the electrical connection to the SDM.




4. Rotate the locking arm (1) to lock the electrical connector to the SDM.




5. Install the CPA (1) to the SDM.
6. Install the nuts that retain the SDM to the floor panel.

Tighten the nuts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

7. Install the floor console.
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8.

IMPORTANT: The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the SDM has been replaced. DTC B1001 may set requiring that the SDM part number to be setup in multiple modules. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is setup properly.
