Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE REPLACEMENTCAUTION:
- Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, make sure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward the front of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
- If the vehicle interior is exposed to moisture and becomes soaked up to the level of the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), the SDM and SDM harness connector must be replaced. The SDM could be activated when powered, which could cause airbag deployment and result in personal injury.
Removal Procedure
CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8.
2. Remove the floor console.
3. Remove the 3 fasteners to the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
4. Remove the connection position assurance (CPA) (1) from the SDM.
5. Rotate the locking arm (1) to release the electrical connector from the SDM.
6. Disconnect the electrical connection from the SDM.
7. Remove the SDM from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface.
2. Install the SDM to the vehicle.
3. Connect the electrical connection to the SDM.
4. Rotate the locking arm (1) to lock the electrical connector to the SDM.
5. Install the CPA (1) to the SDM.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Install the nuts that retain the SDM to the floor panel.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
7. Install the floor console.
IMPORTANT: The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the SDM has been replaced. DTC B1001 may set requiring that the SDM part number to be setup in multiple modules. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is setup properly.
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8.
