SRS - Alternate Test Connector Usage

Bulletin No.: 04-09-41-004

Date: July 21, 2004

INFORMATION

Subject:
Use of Alternate Connector for Driver Front Airbag Diagnostics Due to J 38715-100 Adapter Not Connecting to Vehicle Harness at Steering Column Connector

Models:
2004 Chevrolet Blazer, S-10 Pickup
2004 GMC Jimmy, Sonoma Pickup

Built After VIN Breakpoint 4K102827

Important:
The current adapter can still be used for vehicles which were built with the 2-way connector. This service bulletin only applies to vehicles built with a 4-way connector.

In the current diagnostic Service Information (SI), DTC B0022, B0024, or B0026, the technician is advised in Step 4 to use the J 38715-100 adapter to connect to the harness side of the steering wheel module coil connector. Recent feedback and validation has confirmed that the current adapter will not connect to the vehicle harness.

A new adapter is being developed to resolve this situation. Until the new adapter is available, technicians will have to use the connector between the driver airbag and the airbag coil for airbag diagnostic purposes.

The diagnostic procedure in SI will be updated with the new adapter information when the adapter becomes available.
