Oil Level Indicator and Tube ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly and air intake duct.
3. Remove the surge tank mounting bolt.
4. Move the surge tank out of the way. The hoses can remain attached to the surge tank.
5. Remove the Oil level indicator from the tube.
6. Remove the nut retaining the Oil level indicator to the thermostat crossover.
7. Separate the upper section of the Oil level indicator tube from the lower section.
8. Remove the bolt retaining the engine Oil level indicator tube to the left valve rocker arm cover.
9. Remove the left exhaust manifold.
10. Remove the lower section of the Oil level indicator tube.
11. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the new O-ring seal to the Oil level indicator tube.
2. Install the lower section of the Oil indicator tube.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the bolt retaining the Oil level indicator tube to the valve rocker arm cover.
^ Tighten the Oil level indicator tube bolt to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
4. Install the left exhaust manifold.
5. Install a small amount of RTV sealant GM P/N 12346286 to the area on the upper tube where it joins with the lower tube.
6. Install the upper Oil level indicator tube.
7. Install the nut retaining the Oil level indicator tube to the thermostat cross over.
^ Tighten the Oil level indicator tube nut to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the Oil level indicator.
9. Install the surge tank.
^ Tighten the surge tank bolt to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
10. Install the air cleaner assembly and air intake duct.
11. Install the engine cover.
