Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution In Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: In the event of deployment, inspect the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) coil for assembly wire for any signs of scorching, melting or other damage due to excessive heat. If there is excessive damage to coil assembly, replace the coil assembly.




1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR).

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution In Service Precautions.

2. Remove the mounting bolt hole caps
3. Loosen the steering wheel inflator module TORX(R) bolts completely.

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling And Storage Caution in Service Precautions.




4. Remove the steering wheel inflator module from the steering wheel.
5. Remove the inflatable restraint yellow 2-way connector and the horn connector from the steering wheel.




6. Disconnect the inflatable restraint yellow 2-way connector (1) and the horn connector (3) from the upper steering wheel inflator module coil connectors.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Connect the inflatable restraint yellow 2-way connector and the horn connector to the upper steering wheel inflator module coil connectors.
2. Install the inflatable restraint yellow 2-way connector and the horn connector in the steering wheel.
3. Install the steering wheel inflator module to the steering wheel taking care so that no part of the wire harness is caught between them.
4. Make sure that the clearance between and steering wheel is uniform all the way around.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the 2 TORX(R) bolts in order to secure the inflator module to the steering wheel.

Tighten
Tighten the inflator module-to-steering wheel bolts to 9 N.m (6.5 lb ft).

6. Install the mounting bolt hole caps.
7. Enable the SIR.
