Drum Brake Hardware Inspection





1. Visually inspect the shoe hold down pins (1) and the shoe hold down springs (2) for the following:
^ Excessive corrosion
^ Damaged or bent pins
^ Broken spring coils





2. Visually inspect the upper return spring (1) and the lower return spring (4) for the following:
^ Excessive corrosion
^ Excessive stretching
^ Broken hook ends
^ Twisting
^ Binding

3. Visually inspect the strut, the strut spring (3), and the pawl lever (6) for the following:
^ Excessive corrosion
^ Damage
^ Binding

4. Replace the drum brake system hardware if necessary. Refer to Drum Brake Hardware Replacement.

Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware Inspection





1. Visually inspect the adjuster (2), the adjuster lever, and the adjuster spring (5) for the following:
^ Excessive corrosion
^ Damage
^ Binding

2. Replace the drum brake adjusting hardware if necessary. Refer to Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware Replacement.
