Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid

The power steering fluid level may be inspected when the engine is hot or cold.
1. Turn the ignition OFF.





2. Remove the power steering fluid level indicator from the power steering fluid reservoir.





3. Inspect the power steering fluid level on the power steering fluid level indicator.
The power steering fluid level should be between the FULL/COLD mark and the FULL/HOT mark on the fluid level indicator according to the power steering fluid temperature. Hot power steering fluid is approximately 80°C (170°F).

Notice: Refer to Notice - Using Proper Power Steering Fluid When Adding in Service Precautions.

Important: If the power steering fluid is excessively low, purge the air from the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System.

4. If necessary, adjust the power steering fluid to the proper level according to the power steering fluid temperature. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations.
5. Install the power steering fluid level indicator to the power steering fluid reservoir.
