Handling Refrigerant R-134A

The air conditioning system in this vehicle contains Refrigerant-134a (R134a). This chemical mixture requires special handling procedures in order to avoid personal injury. When performing work that involves opening the refrigerant system, always perform the following steps:
^ Wear goggles.
^ Wrap a clean cloth around the following components:
- The fittings
- The valves
- The connections
^ Work in a well-ventilated area.
^ Avoid breathing any refrigerant fumes.

Do not weld or steam clean on or near any of the following areas:
^ Vehicle-installed air conditioning lines
^ Vehicle-installed air conditioning components

If R-134a comes into contact with any part of the body, perform the following steps:
^ Flush the exposed area with water.
^ Immediately seek medical attention.

Before attempting any service which requires opening the refrigeration system lines or components, refer to the following procedures:
^ Handling of Refrigerant Lines and Fittings
^ Maintaining Chemical Stability

Carefully follow the instructions in the procedure Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.

All R-134a disposable containers are colored blue. All R-134a disposable containers are shipped with a heavy metal screw cap.

This cap protects the following items from damage:
^ The container valve
^ The container safety plug Replace the cap after each use of the container. Replacing the cap will continue the protection.
