Oil Cooler: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the engine coolant from the engine cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
4. Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Without Oil Cooler) or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (With Oil Cooler).
5. Remove the oil cooler outlet hose from the oil cooler. Position the outlet hose aside.
6. Remove the oil cooler connector.
7. Remove the oil cooler inlet hose clamp and the oil cooler.
8. Clean and inspect the engine block mating surface.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the oil cooler and the oil cooler inlet hose clamp. Ensure that the oil cooler seal is in place. Coat the seal with engine oil.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the oil cooler connector.
^ Tighten the oil cooler connector to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the oil cooler outlet hose to the oil cooler.
4. Install the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Without Oil Cooler) or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (With Oil Cooler).
5. Connect the knock sensor electrical connector.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the engine cooling system with engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
8. Add engine oil as necessary. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Without Oil Cooler) or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (With Oil Cooler).
9. Inspect the oil cooler for leaks.
