Headliner Replacement

HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT

Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Important: Replacement of the headliner requires a modification to the new replacement part. The new headliner will include a template which identifies the correct cut-out location. If it is necessary to replace the headliner, follow the existing headliner replacement procedure upon removal of the video entertainment system overhead console.

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) .
2. Remove the front door opening weather-strips. Refer to Front Door Opening Weatherstrip Replacement (Weatherstrip Replacement - Front Door Opening) in Doors.
3. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
4. Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to Roof Console Replacement (Single) (Console Replacement - Overhead (Single))Roof Console Replacement (Dual) (Console Replacement - Overhead (Dual))Roof Console Replacement (CF5) (Console Replacement - Overhead (CF5)) .
5. Remove the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement (Without U42).
6. Remove the finish molding from the rear headliner trim. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Molding Replacement (Headlining Trim Finish Molding Replacement) .
7. Remove the upper pillar trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement) .
8. Remove the upper trim panel from the rear body side. Refer to Third Pillar Trim Replacement (Trim Replacement - Third Pillar) .
9. Remove the upper trim panel from the rear corner. Refer to Upper Rear Trim Finish Panel Replacement (Upper Rear Trim Finish Panel Replacement) .
10. Remove the reading lamps. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement.
11. Remove the rear fan/temperature controls. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement - Auxiliary in Overhead Console.
12. Remove the cargo lamp. Refer to Cargo Lamp Replacement.
13. Remove the liftgate weather-strips. Refer to Liftgate Weatherstrip Replacement (Service and Repair) in Body Rear End.
14. Remove the roof auxiliary air outlets, if equipped. Refer to Auxiliary Air Outlet Duct Replacement.




15. Use J 38778 in order to remove the rear headliner push-in retainers.
16. Push the headliner forward in order to release the locking tab at the front overhead console.
17. Remove the headliner from the roof through the rear of the vehicle.



Installation Procedure

1. Install the headliner to the roof through the rear of the vehicle.
2. Align the locking tab at the front overhead console.
3. Push the headliner rearwards in order to lock the headliner into place.




4. Install the rear headliner push-in retainers.
5. Install the roof auxiliary air outlets, if equipped. Refer to Auxiliary Air Outlet Duct Replacement.
6. Install the liftgate weather-strips. Refer to Liftgate Weatherstrip Replacement (Service and Repair) in Body Rear End.
7. Install the cargo lamp. Refer to Cargo Lamp Replacement.
8. Install the rear fan/temperature controls. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement - Auxiliary in Overhead Console.
9. Install the reading lamps. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement.
10. Install the upper trim panel to the rear corner. Refer to Upper Rear Trim Finish Panel Replacement (Upper Rear Trim Finish Panel Replacement) .
11. Install the upper trim panel to the rear body side. Refer to Third Pillar Trim Replacement (Trim Replacement - Third Pillar) .
12. Install the upper pillar trim panel. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement) .
13. Install the trim finish molding to the rear headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Molding Replacement (Headlining Trim Finish Molding Replacement) .
14. Install the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement (Without U42).
15. Install the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to Roof Console Replacement (Single) (Console Replacement - Overhead (Single))Roof Console Replacement (Dual) (Console Replacement - Overhead (Dual))Roof Console Replacement (CF5) (Console Replacement - Overhead (CF5)) .
16. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
17. Install the front door opening weather-strips. Refer to Front Door Opening Weatherstrip Replacement (Weatherstrip Replacement - Front Door Opening) in Doors.
18. Install the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) .
