Valve Cover: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the two crankcase vent hoses from the valve rocker arm cover.





2. Remove the two ignition coils (4) and the secondary spark plug wires from the valve rocker arm cover.
3. Unclip the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket.
4. Remove the six bolts and the valve rocker arm cover from the cylinder head.





5. Remove the valve rocker arm cover gasket and four O-rings from the cylinder head.
6. Clean the sealing surfaces on the cylinder head and the valve rocker arm cover.

Installation Procedure

Important: A new valve rocker arm cover gasket and O-rings MUST be used whenever the valve rocker arm cover removal and installation is performed. Ensure that the new gasket and O-rings are correctly positioned during the valve rocker arm cover installation.





1. Install the new valve rocker arm cover gasket (1) and four O-rings (3) to the valve rocker arm cover (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the valve rocker arm cover to the cylinder head. Secure the cover with six bolts.
^ Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
3. Install the two ignition coils and the secondary spark plug wires to the valve rocker arm cover.
^ Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).
4. Install the two crankcase vent hoses to the valve rocker arm cover.
5. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket.
