Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

^ Tools Required
- J36825 Output Shaft Oil Seal Remover
- J23907 Slide Hammer
- J36502-2A Output Shaft Seal Protector/Installer
- J36502 Extension Housing Seal Installer


Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement-Rear.





3. Using J36825 and J23907, pry the seal out of the extension housing.

Installation Procedure





1. Position J36502-2A over the output shaft.





2. Using J36502, install the rear output shaft seal.





3. Remove J36502-2A from the output shaft.





4. Fill the space between the seal lips with grease GM P/N 1052497 or equivalent.
5. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement-Rear.
6. Check the transmission oil level. Refer to Fluid Replacement.
7. Lower the vehicle.
