Cylinder Head Replacement - Right


Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement.
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
3. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Cooling System.
4. Remove the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (PS Pump) or Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (Generator).
5. Remove the generator mounting bracket stud from the cylinder head.
6. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower).
7. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement (Right) or Exhaust Manifold Replacement (Left).





8. Remove the spark plug wire harness and spark plug wire support.





9. Remove the bolt and the ground strap from the rear of the cylinder head.





10. Remove the bolt and the ground wires from the rear of the cylinder head.
11. Secure the ground strap and the ground wires out of the way.
12. Remove the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
13. Remove the cylinder head and gasket. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal (Right).
14. Clean the engine block and the cylinder head sealing surfaces.

Notice: Clean all dirt, debris, and coolant from the engine block cylinder head bolt holes. Failure to remove all foreign material may result in damaged threads, improperly tightened fasteners or damage to components.

15. Clean the cylinder head bolts and the engine block bolt holes.
16. For further service to the cylinder head refer to the following:
^ Cylinder Head Disassemble
^ Cylinder Head Clean and Inspect
^ Valve Guide Reaming/Valve and Seat Grinding
^ Cylinder Head Assemble

Installation Procedure





1. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation (Right).
2. Install the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
3. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the spark plug wire harness and the spark plug wire support.

^ Tighten the support bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).

5. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement (Right) or Exhaust Manifold Replacement (Left).





6. Install the bolt and the ground wires to the rear of the cylinder head.

^ Tighten the ground wire bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).





7. Install the bolt and the ground strap to the rear of the cylinder head.

^ Tighten the ground strap bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).





8. Install the stud for the generator mounting bracket.

^ Tighten the generator mounting bracket stud to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

9. Install the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (PS Pump) or Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement (Generator).
10. Install the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Cooling System.
11. Fill the engine coolant system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
12. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement.
