Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the protective shields as necessary.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the oxygen sensors.
4. Remove the right side exhaust manifold stud nuts (3).
5. Remove the left side exhaust manifold stud nuts.
6. Remove the flange stud nuts (2) at the junction of the rear exhaust system and the catalytic convertor.
7. Remove the catalytic convertor.
8. Transfer the oxygen sensors if the catalytic converter is to be replaced. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Replacement - Bank 2 or Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) Replacement in Powertrain Management.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the exhaust seals to the exhaust manifolds.
2. Install the catalytic convertor.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the left side exhaust manifold stud nuts.
Tighten the nuts to 50 Nm (39 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the right side exhaust manifold stud nuts (3).
Tighten the nuts to 50 Nm (39 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the nuts (2) at the rear pipe flange.
Tighten the nuts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
6. Connect the electrical connector to the oxygen sensor.
7. Install the protective shields as necessary.
8. Remove the safety stands.
9. Lower the vehicle.
