Engine Block Heater: Description and Operation
Coolant Heater Description
The engine coolant heater preheats the cooling system in order to aid cold weather starting.
Two engine coolant heaters are available:
* A 600 watt engine coolant heater is available for gasoline engines. The 600 watt engine coolant heater is located on the right side of the engine block.
* A 1000 watt engine coolant heater is used on the Caterpillar(R) 3126 diesel engine. The Caterpillar(R) 3126 diesel engine coolant heater is located on the right side of the engine block.
The engine coolant heater is a heating element that is inserted through one of the coolant jacket holes in the engine block. The heating unit base is precisely machined. A rubber O-ring seals the heater to the coolant jacket. A detachable 3-wire electrical cord supplies 120 volts AC to the heating element.
A cord cap protects the engine coolant heater electrical plug when the plug is not in use.
