Front Coil Spring Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J23028-01 Coil Springs Remover and Installer





1. Remove the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (RWD).
2. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the lower control arm.





3. Cradle the inner control arm bushings using J 23028-0 1.
4. Raise the jack in order to relieve tension on the lower control arm pivot bolts.





IMPORTANT: The chain is not to take place for safety, but to retains the coil springs to the upper control arm.

5. Secure the springs with a chain around one of the top springs coils to the upper control arm.





6. Turn the steering wheel to one side in order to allow the steering linkage to clear the lower control arm front pivot bolt.
7. Remove the lower control arm pivot bolts and nuts.
7.1. Take the lower control arm rear pivot bolt out.
7.2. Take the lower control arm front pivot bolt out.
8. Lower the control arm by lowering the jack.
9. When compression is removed from the coil springs, take the chain away.





10. Remove the coil springs and the insulators. While removing the coil springs, do not apply force to the lower control arm and ball joint. Position the coil springs properly for easy removal.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- J23028-01 Coil Springs Remover and Installer





1. Install the coil springs and the insulators on the lower control arm. Ensure that coil springs covers all or part of one inspection drains hole. The other hole must be partly or completely uncovered. Rotate coil springs as necessary.





2. Support the control arm using J 23028-01.
3. Position the coil springs and insulator in the upper springs seat on the frame.
4. Raise the lower control arm using J23028-01.
5. Install the lower control arm to the frame.





6. In order to maintains adequate steering linkage clearance, install the bolts in the direction shown.
7. Install the lower control arm front pivot bolt and the new nut.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

8. Install the lower control arm rear pivot bolt and the new nut.
8.1. Tighten the lower control arm pivot bolts nuts with the front suspension loaded.
8.2. Tighten the lower control arm front bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
8.3. Tighten the lower control arm rear bolt to 98 Nm (72 ft. lbs.).





9. Install the stabilizer shaft to the lower control arm.
10. Install the shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (RWD).
11. Remove J 23028-01.
12. Check the front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
