Cylinder Head Replacement - Left

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Remove the Cooling System fan.
4. Remove the air conditioning compressor, if equipped. Refer to Compressor Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
5. Remove the nut holding the power steering pump rear bracket to the engine.

Important: The power steering pump can remain on the power steering pump mounting bracket. The pump hoses can remain attached to the pump.





6. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket and set aside.
7. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket stud from the cylinder head.
8. Remove the intake manifold.
9. Remove the exhaust manifold.





10. Remove the ground wires at the rear of the left cylinder head.
11. Remove the A/C pipe bracket nut, if equipped.
12. Remove the fuel pipe bracket bolt at the rear of the cylinder head.
13. Remove the valve pushrods.





14. Remove the cylinder head bolts.
15. Remove the cylinder head.
16. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the cylinder head.
2. Install the valve pushrods.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the ground wires and bolt at the rear of the left cylinder head.
Tighten the ground wire bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the fuel pipe bracket and bolt at the rear of the cylinder head.
Tighten the fuel pipe bracket bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the A/C pipe bracket and nut, if equipped.
Tighten the A/C pipe bracket nut to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the exhaust manifold.
7. Install the intake manifold.





8. Install the stud for the power steering pump mounting bracket to the cylinder head.
Tighten the power steering pump mounting bracket stud to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket.





10. Install the nut holding the power steering pump rear bracket to the engine.
Tighten the power steering pump rear bracket nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the air conditioning compressor.
12. Install the Cooling System fan.
13. Connect the battery negative cable.
14. Install the engine cover.
